"At this time Besson and Boosey and Hawkes were the same company but had two factories. One made B&H instruments and the other made Besson. The ranges were identical apart from some aspects of the valve block and the name.
(formerly "Class A") B&H Imperial = Besson New Standard
(formerly "Class B") B&H Regent = Besson Westminster
Below this, they had a cheaper range of student instruments either made in their own factory in Malta ("78" range) or imported from Eastern Europe. These were sold under the Zenith and LaFleur names.
In 1983 they started to drop the Boosey and Hawkes name and moved towards "Besson London". At this point the intermediate instruments became the 700 series, either with "International" stamped on the bell, or for a short period "Imperial Besson by Boosey and Hawkes". The student line was brought in house and called the 600 series. It all gets a bit messy because the 700 series, and a lot of the 600 series, used parts from the more expensive Sovereign 900 range to save tooling costs.
The class B instruments are still very good.".
