Guild Amp: Thunderbird Guitar Amplifier 1960's

1 x 12 + 1 x 8. THE Mike Bloomfield amp model. As used by Mike when on tour with Bob Dylan in mid 1960s. Sounds fantastic. This is a great-sounding and unique two-channel combo amp, only produced for a short time by Guild in the 60s. Complete, including the original footswitch. It has a clear, chimey clean sound, and this is mostly what I've used it for, but it can also be driven into a nice crunchy distortion. One channel also has a tremolo section, and a nice, spacey-sounding spring reverb for both channels, with an entirely separate level control. There are also "tone-shaping" switches by the inputs of each channel that quite dramatically change the sound of the amp. Somewhat akin to the "bright" switches on a Fender or a Vox, but more dramatic. The most interesting thing about this amp is the unique speaker configuration, and what comes out of each one. The dry sound and the tremolo comes out of the 12" speaker, and ONLY the reverb comes out of the 8" speaker. This has provided me with some fun stereo miking options when recording, such as panning tremolo to one side and reverb to the other side, etc. The speakers can also be individually unplugged from the back of the chassis, so I've also had some fun by unplugging the 12, and playing a lap steel through it using only the 8" reverb speaker, resulting in some really cool, psychedelic-sounding background pad tracks. The possibilities are endless. . OnHold
