Hofner produced two active electronics versions of the 500/1 for a few years from 1967 (Bass Boost circuit-500/1B) and 1968 (Sound Mix circuit-500/1M) into the early 1970s. These sound-improved models were mainly for export. Although perhaps better sounding they had not the look customers expected and the sales never reached the figures of the Original.Head marked 867 (august 1967).
