Airline Town & Country by Valco. 1959.
sb, very worn, real relic!
1st Year Production 1959! Made In USA!
This is an early model 1st year production with a solid wood body.
The later models were the Res-o-Glas.
Airline guitars were sold through the Montgomery Wards catalog.
Valco of Chicago was the builders of Airline, National and Supro.
They also built many other guitars and amps for other manufacturers.
This is a very rare guitar.
Later models had a chambered body which was done by drilling large circular holes in the back and having a back plate cover. The solid wood body was only produced for 2 model years. Valco than went to the back plate cover and eventually the Res-o-Glas fiberglass bodies.
This Airline is a 100% original 2 single pickup model.
This Town & Country also has the original Airline logo sticker on the headstock as well as the serial number metal tag on the reverse side.
The early versions had the sticker.
The color was officially called "Red Burst." Back in '59 these were Montgomery Ward mail order items only. A truly great collectors model.
But how does it Sound? This Airline SCREAMS! Sustains for Days! The large pickup is actually a single coil NOT a humbucker. A very unique tone that has a great growly, punchy sort of sound. "
